Dan Canniff, 28, Obituary and Death – Social Media Creator “2DownDan” Killed in Motorcycle Crash in El Cerrito, San Diego, California
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The San Diego community is mourning the sudden loss of Dan Canniff, a 28-year-old motorcyclist and popular social media content creator known online as “2DownDan.” Authorities confirmed that Canniff died Friday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a sedan in San Diego’s El Cerrito neighborhood. The crash occurred at approximately 12:56 p.m. near the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and 56th Street.
According to the San Diego Police Department, a 22-year-old woman driving a 2019 Toyota sedan was westbound on El Cajon Boulevard and attempted a left turn onto 56th Street under a green light. Simultaneously, Canniff was eastbound on his Kawasaki Ninja 500, also with a green light. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle collided with the front passenger side of the sedan.
Emergency crews arrived swiftly and transported Canniff to a nearby hospital, but despite extensive efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The sedan driver, who also sustained minor injuries, was treated and released from the hospital. Authorities stated that alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
Canniff, known as 2DownDan, was a beloved figure in Southern California’s motorcycling scene. Through his online videos, he showcased his adventures, inspiring a loyal following who admired his passion and fearless spirit. Friends and followers have flooded social media with tributes, remembering him as adventurous, inspiring, and always smiling. “Dan lived for the ride,” one friend wrote. “His energy was contagious, and he made every ride special.”
The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is conducting a full investigation. They are examining factors such as whether the sedan driver yielded properly, the speed of the motorcycle, and other potential contributing factors. No charges have been announced yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
