U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson confirmed that she recently underwent eye surgery after concerns were raised about her absence from Washington, D.C., where she missed more than 40 votes in the House of Representatives. Her office and local media reports indicate she is now recovering.
Wilson, who is 83, addressed her health update while appearing at a community event in Miami for the 5000 Role Models of Excellence project. She explained that she had delayed the procedure for some time before ultimately proceeding with the surgery.
The congresswoman stated that she currently has stitches following the procedure and is still awaiting final clearance from her doctor. Despite this, she expressed optimism about returning to Washington as early as next week, pending medical approval.
Her absence had sparked concern among colleagues and constituents due to the length of time she was away from legislative duties. The update has since reassured many as she continues her recovery at home.
Wilson emphasized that she has been focused on her health and plans to resume her congressional responsibilities once she is fully cleared, as she prepares to return to the nation’s capital in the coming days.
