According to reports, Wakana Yamazaki passed away on April 18, 2026, following a battle with illness. She had reportedly taken a hiatus in February 2026 to undergo medical treatment. Her agency, Aoni Production, later confirmed her passing on May 15, 2026, and also noted that a private funeral had already been held for close family members.
Yamazaki is best remembered for her nearly three-decade-long performance as Ran Mōri in Detective Conan, a role she began in 1996 that made her a household name among anime fans worldwide. Her emotional and consistent portrayal helped define one of the most beloved characters in the long-running series.
