As a founding member and past president of MusicNL (formerly the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador), he played a key role in developing opportunities and recognition for musicians across the region.
A passionate performer, Hutton spent more than 30 years as a guitarist with Billy and the Bruisers, earning admiration for his consistency, skill, and love of live music. Earlier in his career, he also performed with the band 12 Gauge, further establishing his presence in the local music circuit.
Beyond the stage, Hutton was an entrepreneur who contributed significantly to the accessibility of music in the province. He owned and operated Hutton’s Music, a well-known business with locations on Water Street, Military Road, and Duckworth Street, where countless musicians and enthusiasts found instruments, guidance, and community.
He also demonstrated forward-thinking innovation by launching newfoundlandmusic.com, recognized as the province’s first MP3 download platform dedicated to promoting local artists—an initiative that helped bring Newfoundland and Labrador music into the digital age.
In addition to his musical and business pursuits, Hutton worked professionally as a real estate agent, balancing multiple careers while remaining deeply connected to the community.
